We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join our team in Fredericksburg, VA, supporting the DME (Durable Medical Equipment) sector. Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate medically prescribed respiratory equipment and supplies, ensuring safety and proper functioning.
- Assess patient needs and goals to provide personalized, effective respiratory care.
- Train patients and caregivers on the use and maintenance of ventilators and other respiratory and DME equipment, ensuring they are confident in managing their care independently.
- Conduct follow-up evaluations of respiratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Monitor and evaluate patient progress by observing treatment outcomes, documenting findings, and adjusting care plans as appropriate.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive discharge plans.
- Document all patient care services accurately in medical records, maintaining compliance with organizational standards.
- Uphold a safe and clean work environment by following infection control protocols, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on respiratory equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Stay current with advances in respiratory therapy by attending educational workshops, reviewing relevant publications, and engaging with professional communities.
- Provide training and mentorship to other respiratory therapy staff by developing and delivering in-service programs.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local legal, regulatory, and certification standards, providing guidance to management on necessary actions.
- Contribute proactively to the team by sharing expertise and supporting departmental goals.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree (or higher) from an accredited respiratory therapy program.
- Valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in respiratory therapy with specific DME expertise.
- Proficient in bedside manner and possessing strong physiological knowledge.
- Knowledge of infection control, health promotion, and safety procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong judgment, problem-solving abilities, and team collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to train patients and staff effectively.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance on respiratory equipment.
