State Requirements - Education, Licensure, and Certification
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, including a minimum of 24 semester hours in communication sciences and disorders: 9 hours in foundational courses (normal human development, psychology, speech/hearing/language) and 15 hours in speech, hearing, and language disorders, phonetics, audiometry, or related coursework
- Valid Florida Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) license issued by the Florida Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (Florida Department of Health)

Typical Job Duties
- Assist the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist in providing speech, language, and communication services to students with IEPs
- Conduct speech and language screenings under the direction and supervision of the SLP
- Implement planned therapy activities and treatment programs as designed by the supervising SLP
- Document student progress, session notes, and data as directed by the supervising SLP
- Assist during evaluations and assessments as assigned by the supervising SLP
- Communicate with teachers, school staff, and families as directed by the supervising SLP
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
- Wear required identification indicating assistant status at all times during service delivery
