This Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant position is based in Yakima, Washington, a welcoming community in the heart of the Yakima Valley. Yakimas cost of living is generally more affordable than many coastal areas, while still providing access to cultural events, shopping, and dining.In this skilled nursing setting, you will be part of a dedicated rehabilitation team focused on helping adult and geriatric patients regain function, independence, and quality of life following illness, injury, surgery, or hospitalization. The facility offers a mix of short-term rehabilitation and longer-term care, giving you exposure to a variety of diagnoses and functional levels. You will work closely under the direction and supervision of licensed occupational therapists, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team that may include physical therapy, speech therapy, nursing, social services, and medical providers.A typical day for the COTA includes assisting with initial and ongoing assessments under the OTs guidance, implementing individualized treatment plans, and progressing patients through therapeutic activities designed to improve self-care, mobility, strength, coordination, and safety awareness. You will provide interventions such as ADL retraining, functional transfers, endurance-building activities, and education on use of adaptive equipment. Documentation of daily treatments, patient response, and progress toward goals is completed within the facilitys electronic medical record system.Patient caseloads primarily consist of adults and older adults with conditions such as orthopedic surgeries, neurologic impairments, cardiac and pulmonary diagnoses, post-acute recovery after hospitalization, and general deconditioning. You can expect to manage a full but reasonable caseload, with an emphasis on quality of care, safe mobility, and meaningful functional outcomes. Collaboration with nursing and other disciplines is an important part of the role, as you participate in care planning, discharge planning, and ongoing communication about patient status.The work environment emphasizes teamwork, clear communication, and mutual support among therapists and staff.
