Inpatient Mental Health Psychologist - Serve Veterans at Long Beach VA

Practice environment
This is a full-time inpatient role at the Long Beach VA Medical Center. You will be embedded on the Inpatient Mental Health Units, working side-by-side with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, pharmacists, and rehab therapists to deliver coordinated, Veteran-centered care.
Key responsibilities
Perform psychological evaluations to clarify diagnoses and guide personalized treatment plans.
Deliver evidence-based therapies, including individual and group psychotherapy, plus education for families and care partners.
Lead psychosocial and psychotherapeutic treatment planning, shaping programming that supports recovery.
Complete safety plans and suicide risk assessments, and document care clearly and on time.
Contribute to program development, quality and safety projects, and unit/service committees.
Provide consultation to other VA staff caring for Veterans on the inpatient units.
Teach and supervise psychology trainees and lead educational sessions within the Psychology Training Program.

Basic qualifications
Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) from an accredited program.
Completion of an APA-accredited internship.
Full, current, unrestricted licensure as a psychologist in a U.S. jurisdiction.
Strong background in evidence-based assessment and treatment for serious mental illness, mood and anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders.
Preferred / other
Experience in inpatient or intensive mental health settings and interdisciplinary teams is highly valued.
Board certification is welcome but not required.
Licensed recent graduates and current trainees are encouraged to apply.
